DHS - The U.S. Dept. Of Hype and Spying
In the wake of the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Centers, Congress and President Bush established a Department of Homeland Security, as an executive department of the United States. It’s mission:
(1) In General. - The primary mission of the Department is to-
(A) prevent terrorist attacks within the United States;
(B) reduce the vulnerability of the United States to terrorism; and
(C) minimize the damage, and assist in the recovery, from terrorist attacks that do occur within the United States."

Four years after it’s creation, our borders remain "open" and unchecked with thousands of illegal immigrants entering the country every day. If we as a country are truly "at war" and are in need of ways to protect our nation from foreign terrorists wouldn’t the single most logical first step be to secure our borders? After all, the prevention of terrorist attacks was the whole basis for forming the Department of Homeland Security, or was this just a ruse?
The DHS has yet to do any "illegal immigration sweeps" to round up the illegal immigrants who may also be potential terrorists. They have however, done several "major sweeps" on American citizens.
One year after the DHS was established it launched "Operation Predator" in conjunction with several of it’s component organizations. "Operation Predator’s" goal was to identify children depicted in child pornography to help rescue them, and to assist in prosecuting the people responsible for making and distributing the pornographic material. It is worthy to mention that this "Operation" was conducted in partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Targeting what they refer to as Sexual Predators (meaning anyone who is a registered sex offender, including kids as young as 12 years old).
More than 2,000 child "predators" and "sex offenders" have been brought to justice in the eight months since the launch of a new law enforcement program known as Operation Predator. The sweep netted zero terrorists. E-mail, telephone, debit card transactions, and mail interceptions were used to facilitate the apprehensions.
Operation FALCON -- the acronym for "Federal and Local Cops Organized Nationally" -- was again, a "massive roundup of 10,000 American citizens" in a "massive clandestine dragnet that involved hundreds of state, federal and local law-enforcement agencies during the week of April 4 to April 10, 2005. CNN reported that "the raids netted '162 accused or convicted of murder, 638 wanted for armed robbery, 553 wanted for rape or sexual assault, 154 gang members and 106 unregistered sex offenders.'" That’s approximately 10% of the 10,000 apprehended, so what of the other 9,000? As of May 18, 2005, the date of this "counterpunch" report, "the US Marshall's office [had] issued no public statement to the press as to whether the 10,000 people arrested in operation Falcon have been processed or released." The feds have also carried out several "Operation City Sweep"(s) which have also been rounding up (Nope, still not terrorists) but More American’s that have outstanding warrants for a wide variety of crimes, again these are not people wanted for terrorism related activities.
This is the ultimate bait and switch. Now, I am not saying it is a bad thing to bring people to justice if they have committed a crime or have an outstanding warrant, but why lie to us?
Why lead the American people to believe that the threat of a "terrorist attack" is so great that we need things like the Department of Homeland Security and the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. ACT to protect us when that is NOT what these programs are being used primarily for? It isn’t terrorists that are being targeted it’s AMERICAN’S!
