WE ARE WHAT WE EAT
GROWTH HORMONES IN FOOD AND THE EFFECT ON SOCIETY
I was a bit hesitant in bringing up this topic for fear of being flagged as some sort of conspiracy nut. As usual, however, science and hard data have convinced me that this article was not only relevant but a dire necessity as well. The research is wrought with evidence on such a heinous and insidious level that to with-hold the information contained herein would be a huge disservice for my readers as well as for future generations.
If it hasn’t already become obvious that big business and political agendas aren’t taking a front seat to the well being of the American public then perhaps this article will tip the scales in favor of the reality in which we are living.
As a mother myself I have been baffled and admittedly unnerved by the rate in which my daughters have been maturing. Three of my daughters had their first periods by the age of ten, Ten. They hadn't even lost all of their baby teeth. The signs of the onset of puberty were obvious well before then, typically between 8-1/2 and 9 years old. By now my oldest, now 14, is utterly "boy crazy" much to my chagrin.
But it made me wonder, why so young? I began doing some preliminary research and the answer was soon abundantly clear. I am very angry about what I discovered. Additionally, I wondered what role in the grand scheme of "sex offenses" especially those involving offenders who are juveniles did all of this have.
It is no secret that big business is always looking for new and innovative ways to increase profits and cut costs. The food industry is no different. For many years now, much of the food we eat and milk that we (and our children) drink comes from animals that have been pumped up with a variety of growth hormones. As usual, our government tells us this is perfectly safe. The truth of the matter however is that these hormones pass directly into our food supply and are absorbed by our bodies. But it doesn’t stop there. Several chemicals used in a wide array of products can cause severe interruption in normal developmental processes. The effects can even start as early as in vitro for a child, wreaking havoc on normal development. There are documented behavioral alterations as well.
Besides being implicated in creasing the risks and predisposition of contracting a wide variety of cancers, these growth hormones play a direct role in the early onset of puberty. The social ramifications should not and can not be overlooked.
Girls who menstruate earlier tend to date earlier, have sex earlier, and experience more psychological stress.
"Contamination in the womb can speed or retard sexual development. These compounds interfere with hormones that control the pace and pattern of development." Chemicals that are suspected as having effects on sexual development include bisphenol A and polybrominated biphenyls, chemicals found in plastic, and phthalates, which are found in cosmetics says John Peterson "Pete" Meyers, director of the W. Alton Jones Foundation, in Charlottesville. They can also be a factor in behavioral problems including aggression.
These physical and social effects cannot be underestimated. Nor should they be. Adolescence and puberty can be confusing enough for teens and young people without the added paradox inherent with the manipulation of the food we feed our kids.
Raging, out of control hormones are no match for a child who has yet to reach emotional maturity coupled with the fact that we lived in a sex saturated society. The result, tragically, is the ever increasing rate of juvenile convictions for sex crimes.
This is a travesty for the American family. We have no way of knowing which foods we are serving our children are heavily laced with these dubious chemicals and which ones are not. On any given day we may unwittingly, as loyal and unsuspecting consumers be aiding in the destruction of our children and their future. Who is responsible for the consequences? Certainly not big business. Certainly not the politicians whose pockets are thickly lined with financial contributions from the companies which benefit from the legal use of such chemicals. The trail of financial rewards trickles all the way down to the prison industrial complex which then house and further corrupt our children and destroy their lives for personal gain.
How are we, as Americans, as parents who want only the best for our kids, to compete with such an insidious scheme kept well hidden by mainstream media. When will we as Americans wake up to the reality that we are all pawns in the game of corporate and political power? When will we finally stand up and say enough is enough?

“The first step toward change is awareness. The second step is acceptance.”
Nathaniel Branden Quote
Due to the health risks, the European Union has banned the use of substances having a hormonal action for growth promotion in farm animals, and has prohibited the import of hormone-treated beef since 1988; yet America keeps right on feeding it to us.
in the United States, every year approximately 36 million cattle are raised to provide beef for US consumers; 2/3 of these cattle (about 24 million cows) are given hormones to help make them grow faster.
