NO COINCIDENCES
REGISTERING ONLINE IDENTIFIERS JUST THE LATEST ASSAULT ON THE CONSTITUTION
Phoenix, Az April 24, 2007
A wise man once said, “There is no such thing as coincidence”.
Today the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (The NCMEC) put out a press release announcing that it’s cybertipline has just received (and perhaps exceeded ) it’s 475,000th online tip. The tipline handles calls for online solicitation, child pornography images, and obscene material being sent to minors via the internet. Seems like an outrageously high number doesn't it?
What they aren't clarifying, and this is crucial, is that "spam" is being counted in their online solicitation numbers see here: http://www.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/PageServlet?LanguageCountry=en_US&PageId=2447 In this case, I think it is safe to say just about anyone with an e-mail account, adult or minor, has been "victimized" in this fashion at one time or another, or even many times over. Again, this serves as clear evidence that the NCMEC is sensationalizing the problem, inflating the numbers through the exploitation of facts and misleading the public.
Judging by the amount of spam I get, I can only imagine how large the porportion of online solicitations were actually "spam" and not cases where an individual was actually conversing with and soliciting a minor online as their press release leads us to believe.
According to the press release, the leads have led to thousands of arrests and successful prosecutions of “offenders”. There is no mention of how many "spammers" they have caught and prosecuted. Interestingly there is also no indication as to how many of these “offenders” were registered sex offenders. I have inquired as to the number via e-mail but have thus far received no response. I doubt very much that I ever will.
Judging by the re-offense rate for convicted sex offenders (according to the United States Department of Justice and various other studies) there is no doubt that registered sex offenders make up only a miniscule proportion of the group. The re-offense rate for registered sex offenders committing another sex crime hovers at a mere 5%. This means that the majority of those purported to have been “busted by the NCMEC” (95%) are individuals who are NOT on the registry.
Another vital piece of information that is missing from the report is how many of the perpetrators or offenders were minors sharing risqué photos to their girlfriends or boyfriends (your children) that have now been swept up in the sex offender net.
The timing of this press release is impeccable. So much so that it appears, at least to me and others “in the know” that it was a very carefully timed and orchestrated event.
The current legislative push on registered sex offenders (of course), is the registering of all online identifiers, chat handles, as well as every website the ex offender visits. This will apply to all on the registry regardless of offense. Regardless of whether or not the crime involved the use of a computer, enticement, or even a minor! This will also apply retroactively, as usual and even though it is completely unconstitutional.
Where is the rationalization for this? I mean other than the government once again is being allowed to exsercise unbridled control and authority over a group of it’s own citizens, the majority of which have been law abiding for decades. How long before we are ALL required to submit to this for the sake of (supposedly) “ protecting the children”??? It is only a matter of time, especially considering the vast majority of new offenses, again 95%, are committed by someone NOT on the registry.
The NCMEC press release, coupled with their unending testimony to congress at the expense of tens of millions of taxpayer dollars in the end does little more than line their own pockets. Their press releases are vague and lack any detail whatsoever, not to mention sources to back up what they are telling us. Certainly, if the NCMEC is able to “assist” the FBI and local law enforcement in tracking down the offenders they already have the means at their disposal to track and locate whoever has broken the law. Again, why do hundreds of thousands of law abiding citizens then have to supply this information or face fifteen years inprisonment? Where is the probable cause and search warrant to command someone to comply as per the constitution?
It is interesting to note that at least 14 states are either actively trying to pass this legislation or have succeeded in doing so. Also interesting is that Lexis Nexis, (subsidiary of Reed Eslevier) a foreign owned company which has access to every American’s most private data, sends representatives to the state legislative hearings to testify for the laws. Of course, Lexis Nexis, will be the appointed gatekeeper of this information. No conflict of interest there!
Be very afraid, whether guilty of any wrongdoing online or not because Lexis Nexis is notorious for having security breaches and erroneous information in their files. It will be up to YOU to prove you are innocent, especially if it involves a sex crime charge.
In case you think you're safe, that your particular state isn’t trying to incorporate this legislation you can forget it. Congressman and Presidential hopeful John McCain (R-AZ) and Charles Schumer (D-NY) have already introduced similar legislation at the federal level and you can bet that if they tell the sheeple “it’s all about protecting the children” it will pass with flying colors. Even if Congressman James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) has to do it behind closed doors, like he did with the Adam Walsh Act, it will pass.
The only hope is for everyone, not only registered sex offenders and their families, but EVERYONE to think long term and look at the implications inherent with this legislation with the knowledge that it will eventually reach to each and every one of us, no matter how law abiding we are. It is an overt attack on numerous constitutional guarantees under the guise of safety. Do not be fooled. It is not about safety at all. It IS about money, control, power, and the annhilation of our constitutional rights.

READING THE FINE PRINT. ACCORDING TO THE NCMEC WEBSITE, THE FOLLOWING IS INCLUDED IN THE COUNTING OF ONLINE SOLICITATIONS WHICH WERE INCLUDED IN THEIR REPORT.
Unsolicited Obscene Material Sent to a Child
It is an unfortunate reality of the Internet that children will encounter obscene material online. Many times this material is attached as an image(s) or hyperlink(s) sent to a child in an unsolicited E-mail or “spam.”
To combat this problem NCMEC takes reports of unsolicited obscene material sent to a child. It is a violation of criminal law for any person to knowingly or attempt to send or transfer obscene material to another individual who has not attained the age of 16 years (18 U.S.C.A. 1470).
Please report any incidents where a child may have received visual depictions of persons engaging in sexually explicit conduct that is obscene.
