THE LIGHT BULB POLICE

The U.S. Congress recently passed an extremely dire and lethal energy bill. They want to make incadescant lightbulbs obsolete and force every American to use the new ahem "Eco-Friendly" lightbuls. These new "eco-friendly" bulbs contain toxic mercury which make them anything BUT eco-friendly. So dangerous are these light bulbs that everyone must leave the room for at least 15 minutes if one falls to the floor and breaks. Additionally, a leading dermatologist said tens of thousands of people with skin complaints will find it hard to tolerate being near the bulbs as they cause conditions such as eczema to flare up. But that's not the worst of it.

If one breaks inside your home, everyone, including pets must evacuate the room for at least fifteen minutes. Shards of glass from broken bulbs should not be vacuumed or swept  away, instead someone wearing rubber gloves to protect them from the bulb's mercury content must use a damp cloth to carefullt pick up the pieces and place them in a glass container with a metal lid and taken to a "local" toxic waste facility.

Now, Americans, being as hurried as they are, how many will take the time to place these burnt out or broken bulbs into an appropriate container and drive to a hazardous waste facility? Assuming they can find one. Realistically, they will be tossed in with the rest of the garbage and hauled away to the nearest town or city dump.

Then what? Mercury does not decompose. It is one of the most toxic substances known to man and once it is in your body it it extremely difficult, if not impossible to completely remove it, often times, the damage to the body has already been done.  Side effects of Mercury poisoning can result in long-term immune, sensory, neurological, motor, and behavioral dysfunctions.

Additionally, Mercury damages the central nervous system, endocrine system, kidneys, and other organs, and adversely affects the mouth, gums, and teeth. Exposure over long periods of time or heavy exposure to mercury vapor can result in brain damage and ultimately death. Mercury and its compounds are particularly toxic to fetuses and infants. Women who have been exposed to mercury in pregnancy have sometimes given birth to children with serious birth defects (see Minamata disease).

Mercury exposure in young children can have severe neurological consequences, preventing nerve sheaths from forming properly. Mercury inhibits the formation of myelin, the building block protein that forms these sheaths.

There is some evidence that mercury poisoning may predispose to Young's syndrome (men with bronchiectasis and low sperm count).

Mercury poisoning's effects partially depend on whether it has been caused by exposure to elemental mercury, inorganic mercury compounds (as salts), or organomercury compounds.

So what happens to these "wonderful" energy saving bulbs that end up in the local dump? Rainwater runoff will carry it into storm drains rivers, lakes and eventually make it's way into our water supply.

It is bad enough that the government knowingly uses mercury as an additive in childhoold vaccinations. Which could be one reason why the rates of autism have skyrocketed to pandemic proportions in recent years. But that's another story.

This is another example of Congresses' carelessness as well as a testament to the completely uneducated and utter idiocy of our elected officials. My question is: What's in it for them?

Do we REALLY need the government to tell us what kind of  light bulb we HAVE to use in our homes - that we have no choice but to subject our families and our environment to such preventable disasters?

We the people need to wake up and remind our elected officials that "We the People" are in charge and they work for us, NOT the other way around.

Notice the other congressman behind him giggling in the background as if this were some kind of joke? (Beleived to be Joe Biden) Well, this is NOT a joke. Far from it. This is serious and all Americans need to take notice of it and DO something about it, before the light bulb police come knocking at your door. Tell congress you DO NOT WANT these lightbulbs and to stick them where the sun doesn't shine!
